Why Natural

DO YOU KNOW THE BENEFITS OF NATURAL SKINCARE?

Yes, it’s natural, so that means it’s better for your skin and the environment. But do you know why? And do you know that there are so many more benefits than that? Maybe not. So today, I’m here to tell you all about it (I’ve tried to keep it as brief as possible)…

When I hit puberty, puberty hit back! My skin erupted into a minefield of acne. I tried everything I could find in the chemist but nothing seemed to work. A lot of the products just dried my skin out, which may have helped with the spots, but the dry and flaky patches looked just as bad.

In the end, I went to the doctor. He prescribed something for me. I was at the end of my tether, so I tried it. The fact that it was prescription-only should have been the first clue, the fact that it would sting when I applied it to my skin should have been the second clue, the third clue, and the one that finally sank in, was that it made my skin really dry, patchy, and flaky. Not pretty.

Why am I telling you my teenage skincare traumas? I hear you ask…

Well, it was only in mid twenties, when I turned to Mother Nature, that my skin calmed down and I can say that we made our peace with each other. I developed a natural skincare routine that works for my skin, and the blemishes, though still there occasionally (especially at a certain time of each month – darn hormones!), are far fewer than they were. Plus, as an added bonus, I’ve been told (several times, I might add) that I look younger than I am – result!

Mine could be called an extreme case – not everyone has a terrible case of acne to contend with, so do they need to use natural skincare?

Yes! Is my answer to that question.

So many people don’t realise the effects of chemicals found in mass-produced “skincare” (I use the term loosely, as some products can do more harm than good) products. Many of today’s skincare complaints – acne, eczema, sensitivity – can actually be caused, and certainly exacerbated by the chemicals we apply to our skin every day.

I have so many customers approach me, complaining of sensitive skin. When I ask about the products they use, they run off a list of products, all of which contain chemicals, detergents, and preservatives. And there’s the answer to the problem. The chemicals in the products they’re using are actually causing the sensitivity.

You may have noticed, when buying a moisturiser, or other product, that the ingredients list is so long, and full of unpronounceable names, and you know what? So many of these ingredients have nothing to do with your skin – they’re there to extend the life of the product, or to make it a pretty colour, or to make it smell nice – but these don’t benefit the skin in any way.

What’s more, even though some natural skincare products can be seen as expensive, they’re actually really good value for money; not only do you get a premium product, you also get a product that will go a long way. With mass-produced skincare, you have to slather on loads of lotion to get any moisturising effect, and many don’t penetrate deeper than the first layers of the skin, but because natural products only contain the ingredients that are needed to keep your skin healthy, and ingredients that will penetrate the skin to have an effect deep-down, a little really does go a long way.

Some customers have mentioned to me that they find natural skincare products too oily, and the simple answer to that is to use less product the next time you apply it. Plus, if you find the correct oils for your skin, the effects can be amazing.

The products we create at Greenviv are all natural and lovingly handmade. They contain no harsh chemicals or preservatives, but are packed full of Mother Nature’s gorgeous-ness to help you achieve naturally beautiful, healthy skin. We produce our products in small batches, so that customers get them at their freshest and best. Yes, our products smell nice, and we often add essential oils which improve the smell further, but we do this with the essential oils’ skincare benefits in mind. We never add an ingredient if it’s not going to benefit your skin in some way.

Each product is designed and formulated to not only look, feel and smell good, but to do good to your skin as well. It is very important to me that each and every Greenviv product has beneficial skincare properties! I’m pleased to say that the feedback I’ve been getting from customers shows that Greenviv products do live up to that fundamental requirement.

WHY THE NAME GREENVIV?

Green is synonym with Nature and -viv- comes from Latin, where it has the meaning "life. So Greenviv stands for Life with Nature or Natural Life.....

Greenviv products are natural and handmade. They contain no harsh chemicals or preservatives, but are packed full of Mother Nature’s gorgeous-ness to help you achieve naturally beautiful, healthy skin.

Our products are based on traditional herbal remedies to create products formulated to not only look, feel and smell good, but to do good to your skin as well. It is very important to us that each and every Greenviv product has beneficial skincare properties!

We’re pleased to say that the feedback we get from customers shows that Greenviv products do live up to that one fundamental requirement.

In researching the skincare market before and during the setting-up Greenviv, We discovered the truth behind some of the products out there, and the ingredients that go into them.

For example, Sodium Laureth Sulphate – a popular ingredient used in foaming face washes, body washes, etc. – was developed as an industrial cleaner… And we put that on our skin?! It strips the skin of all its natural oils, drying it out, and leaving it patchy and flaking. We came to realise that all those skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, sensitivity, and the like, are, in the most part, exacerbated by the products that we apply to our skin.

OUR PROMISE

We promise to use nothing but the finest natural ingredients and essential oils when creating our products. We promise to use responsibly sourced ingredients, and take into consideration the effect these ingredients have on the people and places that produce them.

SOURCING OUR INGREDIENTS

We are committed to using fairly-traded ingredients, where possible, and already source a number of our ingredients from such initiatives, these include our gorgeously-scented unrefined cocoa butter, unrefined shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil, sugar, and some plant oils.We believe that the natural world gives us everything we need to keep our skin healthy. That’s why we use only the finest natural ingredients in our products.

Many skincare manufacturers make false ‘all-natural’ claims about their products which still contain a number of chemical ingredients. Some products have met a lot of bad press because of it.

At Greenviv, we carefully formulate our products without the use of chemicals.

  • No Alcohol – this is often used as a preservative in natural skin care creams. This type of ethyl alcohol (usually listed as ‘alcohol denat.’ on the label) can dry out the skin, cause irritation, trigger Rosacea flare-ups and prevent the absorption of Vitamin A – the lack of which promotes premature ageing.
  • No Artificial fragrances – these often contain phthalates and other irritating chemicals. They are the most frequent cause of allergic reactions to cosmetics.
  • No Formaldehyde (including Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate) – this is a harsh skin irritant and there are serious health concerns about exposure to this chemical.
  • No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - this foaming agent is a harsh skin irritant and a bad trigger of skin allergies.
  • No Parabens- more and more people are becoming sensitised to this ingredient. Recent research has suggested it may have a weak oestrogenic effect and may cause DNA damage and premature ageing when exposed to sunlight, and links cancer have been suggested.
  • No Phenoxyethanol- this is a skin irritant and has recently been banned for use in certified organic skin care products by Ecocert and COSMOS, the new EU organic certification standard.
  • No Petrochemicals - these are chemical ingredients derived from petroleum. These are bad skin irritant and triggers eczema.
  • No Phthalates - used as a fixative for fragrances. It is often absent from ingredient labels as many companies use “parfum” rather than list it separately. There are serious safety concerns surrounding this ingredient in regard to reproductive health. CONTINUE
